Ottawa

We’re in Ottawa!!!  We left Sainte-Justine to come to CHEO in an ambulance this morning.  I will stay here until tomorrow or Friday so that the respirologist can evaluate me and for the home oxygen to be set up.  After that, it’s home sweet home!  Mommy and daddy have been waiting so long for this moment to come, but it’s not quite sinking yet.  They must admit that leaving Sainte-Justine was a bit emotional since the staff had become like family in the last six months. We will never forget all of the amazing people we met there.  I’d like to take this opportunity to ask you to pray for my friend William who’s two years old and has also been at Sainte-Justine a very long time, fighting like a champ.  I really hope his second transplant will be able to kill all the cancer cells so he can go back home with his parents and big sister!

I know it’s been a while, but I’ve scolded mommy and she promises to try and update the blog more often.  The last few weeks have been quite the roller coaster ride.  I went being able to wander the halls in my stroller without any oxygen on Friday the 27, to being back in ICU for a few hours last Friday to get another drain put in because the ascites is back in my belly.  The oxygen-free stroll was great for mommy and daddy’s moral and everything seemed so wonderful as there was talk we might be able to go home the following week!  Unfortunately the ascites came to rain on our parade, and with it came increased needs in oxygen and having to put the feeding tube back in because I just didn’t want to eat anymore.  They tried to treat it with diuretics and albumin for a week, but it wasn’t helping so the only solution was the drain.  It’s done wonders!  My belly has gone from 52cm to 46cm in three days.  They’ve drained over a litre of liquid from my belly.  My appetite is back, I have more energy then ever and I’m down to only 0.1 litre of oxygen.  We’re just keeping our fingers crossed that once we take out this drain the ascites won’t come back.
